Assam Current affairs 2021 : In todays assam daily Current affairs season we will discuss about the recent government decision to hike the daily wage of tea garden workers.

Highlights :

• The Assam government on Friday decided to hike wages of tea garden workers by Rs 38 and this will be effective from February 23 of this calendar year.

• Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, held a meeting with representatives of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha and other tea bodies to discuss issues pertaining of wage fixation and it was decided to hike the daily wage of tea workers by Rs 38.

• With this hike, the tea workers in Brahmaputra valley would get Rs 205 from the existing Rs 167 and tea workers of Barak valley would get Rs 183 from the existing Rs 145.

Tea Industry of Assam

Assam is blessed with a high potential for development of resource and demand based industries and produces more than 50 % of the tea produced in India and about 1/6th of the tea produced in the world. Tea industry has contributed substantially to the economy of Assam. About 17 percent of the workers of Assam are engaged in the tea industry. Assam tea industry is India’s largest tea industry and second largest tea production region in the world after China.

There are around 2500 small tea gardens and the total production of tea in Assam in 2009 was 500 million kgs, compared to the 487 million kgs produced by the State in 2008.
