National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar invites offline applications for admission to various PhD courses in different departments for the June to December 2020 session. Interested candidates can submit their applications on or before the last date, which is june 26,2020.

Admission Groups for NIT Silchar PhD Admission 2020 :

Admission to Ph.D. Program will be on 2 Groups or modes : A and B

Group ARegular Category who may receive a fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) / CSIR/UGC orany other recognized funding agency. Fellowship: As per  Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)  / CSIR / UGC guidelines.
Group BNo financial assistance or stipend by National Institute of Technology (NIT), will be provided for this group.

Eligibility Criteria for NIT Silchar phd Admission :

For Engineering Departments :

  • Master of Engineering(M.E)/Master of Technology (M.Tech) or equivalent with GATE / NET qualification in an appropriate area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
  • For Schedule Tribe (ST)/Schedule Tribe (ST)/PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks).
  • Bechelors of Engineering(B.E) /B.Tech. with an excellent academic record with valid The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score and with a Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of at least 8.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (75% of marks).
  • For graduates from IITs/NITs, the minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) requirement is 7.0 (on a 10 point scale).
  • For Schedule Tribe (ST)/Schedule Tribe (ST)/PwD candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CPI or 5% of the marks.

Science Departments :

  • Master degree in a relevant discipline with a The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / The National Eligibility Test(NET) score for admission with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
  • For Schedule Tribe (ST)/ Schedule Tribe (ST)/ PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks) with a GATE / UGC / CSIR / The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) / The National Eligibility Test(NET) score for admission.

Management Studies Departments :

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration(MBA) or Master’s degree in Engineering /Technology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks) or Master degree in other disciplines with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
  • For Scedule Caste (SC) / Schedule Tribe (ST) / PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks). A score in The National Eligibility Test(NET) / GATE / UGC is required for all.

Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Department :

  • Master’s degree in any field with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60 % of marks) or Master degree in other disciplines with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60 % of marks).
  • For Scedule Caste (SC) / Schedule Tribe (ST)/ PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55 % of marks). A score in The / GATE / UGC is required for all.

Application Process :

  1. Download the admission application form with other relevant documents from the Institute’s official website: www.nits.ac.in
  2. The filled in and signed Application Form must be accompanied with an Application Fee of Rs.500/- (for Unreserved/OBC) OR Rs.250/- (for SC/ST) in the form of crossed Demand Draft (D.D.) in favour of Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, payable at Silchar.

The hard copy of the filled Application form complete in all respects along with the payment details should be submitted to the respective departments at the time of verification during the written exam. The subject of the envelope should be “Application for the Ph.D. program” » Name of the department (applying for) » Group A or Group B”

*Send a hard copy of application form through mail / email:

Scanned copy of the Application form complete in all respects and the receipt/payments details must be emailed to– directornits@gmail.com & deanrcnits@gmail.com on or before 26th June, 2020 by 5.00 p.m. Subject should be “Application for Ph.D. program- Name of the department (applying for)- Group A or Group B”.
